Dietary

The Atchison Hospital Dietary Services Department provides meal service and snacks for inpatients, as well as serving meals to staff, physicians, and the public in our cafeteria. The department is open from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily, while the cafeteria is open from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. for breakfast on Monday thru Fridays, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for lunch Monday-Friday, and 11 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The dietary staff work hard to prepare a variety of entrees, soups, vegetables, and desserts daily for the patients and the cafeteria, and also prepares a full salad bar for the cafeteria during lunchtime on Monday thru Fridays.

The Registered Dietitian provides clinical nutrition services and nutritional assessments for inpatients when indicated, and works closely with the physicians, rehab services, nursing, and social workers to develop and implement care plans for patients at nutritional risk, including, but not limited to wound healing and nutritional support, and also in developing discharge plans. Therapeutic diet education is available for inpatients at the request of the physician, nursing or the patient.

The Registered Dietitian is available to provide therapeutic diet education for outpatients when ordered by a physician. Consultations may be done on a variety of nutritional needs, such as diabetes, weight loss, elevated cholesterol levels, etc. If you desire to meet with the dietitian, please contact your physician who can provide the referral. The dietitian is available by appointment by calling (913) 360-5571.
